Overview

Betteries is a start-up based in Berlin, that upcycles batteries from electric vehicles into connected affordable power systems to avert climate change and protect valuable resources - fully embracing the principles of a circular economy.

Betteries was looking for a partner who could help them to create a cross-platform mobile app that would give end users the ability to control all power devices on a mobile phone. HBM built such an app for Betteries, going through all the stages of creating an app, from design to market launch.

For HBM, it was more than just a project. At the end of 2022, when attacks on Ukraine’s civil infrastructure have left millions of people without access to heat, electricity and water, Betteries initiated program Power to Ukraine. The project aims at providing and servicing a decentralized power supply as quickly and directly as possible at neuralgic points of critical civilian infrastructure like hospitals, schools and kindergartens. HBM is happy and proud to make an input into Betteries mission.

Outcomes

  • HBM proposed the app design and built the cross-platform mobile app from scratch
  • The app was released to the AppStore and Google PlayMarket in 6 months after work start containing all main features
  • HBM continues take care of the app maintenance

Client needs:

Betteries upcycle 2nd life electric vehicle (EV) batteries to accelerate the transition to renewables and are well positioned to deliver scalable CO2 savings and protect scarce resources. Their business model embraces circular economy principles by ensuring recycling at the end of 2nd life and significantly lowers cost for customers through our battery-as-a-service offering.

Betteries needed to create an engaging and user-friendly mobile app that would give their end users the ability to control all power devices on a mobile phone. They also needed assistance in product management to help transform the ideas into requirements for the development team.

Though Betteries was taking care of the backend and APIs themselves, they still needed help with its testing. They were also looking for ways to improve their solution infrastructure to make it correspond to the world class standards and ensure its reliability.

Project description:

HBM involved a team consisting of UI/UX designer, mobile developer, test engineer, project/product manager and DevOps. The team quickly grasped all customer's needs and expectations and promptly started working on the implementation.

The project started with designing an engaging and user-friendly UI/UX for the mobile app that could enhance users’ overall experience of using Betteries’ devices.

The Flutter technology was chosen to build a cross-platform mobile app. HBM took responsibility not only for the app development but also for testing (including testing of backend APIs) and infrastructure improvements. In addition to the app, the new solution infrastructure was built on top of the docker & Kubernetes framework.

On each project stage, there was a project/product manager involved helping customer to transform ideas into technical requirements and ensuring delivery according to expectations.

In 6 months, the app was ready for production use and was released to the Playmarket and AppStore.

HBM continues being a Betteries partner for the app maintenance.
